Privacy Policy
Your data stays on your device.
Calmly is built on a simple principle: your recovery journey is yours alone. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any server. All information you enter remains on your device unless you explicitly choose to export it.

1. Introduction
Calmly ("we," "our," or "us") provides a mobile application (the "App") designed to serve as a personal recovery companion. The App is available on iOS and Android and offers tools including sobriety day tracking, mood check-ins, journal entries, gratitude lists, daily reflections, and a meeting finder.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Calmly App. We are committed to protecting your privacy and have designed the App with a local-first architecture that minimizes data collection to the greatest extent possible.
Important: Calmly is a personal wellness and recovery companion tool. It is not a medical device, clinical application, or substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, please contact emergency services or a qualified healthcare provider immediately.
2. Information We Collect
Calmly is designed to collect as little information as possible. The App does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or share any personally identifiable information to use its features.
Information stored locally on your device:
- Sobriety date and milestones — your chosen sobriety start date and progress data
- Mood check-ins — daily mood entries and any notes you provide
- Journal entries — personal reflections and writings
- Gratitude lists — items you add to your gratitude entries
- Saved meetings — meeting details you choose to save for quick access
- Emergency contacts — names and phone numbers you add for quick access
- App preferences — your settings and configuration choices
None of this data is transmitted to our servers or any third party. All of the above information is stored exclusively in your device's local storage (IndexedDB) and never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export it.
Information we do not collect:
- Names, email addresses, or account credentials
- Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprints
- Usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioral data
- Browsing history, IP addresses, or network information
- Health or medical records
3. How We Use Your Information
Because all data remains on your device, we do not "use" your information in the traditional sense. The data you enter is processed locally by the App to provide its features:
- Calculating and displaying your sobriety day count and milestones
- Displaying your mood history and check-in trends
- Storing and organizing your journal entries and gratitude lists
- Providing quick access to your saved meetings and emergency contacts
- Remembering your app preferences and settings
We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the App's core functionality directly to you on your device.
4. Data Storage & Security
Calmly employs a local-first architecture, meaning your data is stored exclusively on your device. We have implemented the following security measures to protect your information:
Local-Only Storage
All personal data is stored in your device's local database (IndexedDB). No data is synced to cloud servers, and no remote backups are created by the App.
End-to-End Encryption
Sensitive data such as journal entries can be encrypted using a passphrase you set. Encryption is performed on your device before data is stored. Only someone with your passphrase can decrypt and read your entries. We do not have access to your passphrase or your encrypted data.
No Accounts Required
Calmly does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any authentication credentials. There are no usernames, passwords, or tokens stored on our servers because we do not maintain user accounts.
While we have taken extensive measures to protect your data at the application level, please be aware that the security of data stored on your device also depends on your device's own security settings (such as screen lock, device encryption, and operating system updates). We recommend keeping your device software up to date and using a strong device passcode.
5. Location Data
The Calmly App includes a Meeting Finder feature that can help you locate recovery meetings near you. This feature requires access to your device's location services.
How location data is used:
- Your location is used only when you actively use the Meeting Finder feature
- Location data is sent to a third-party meeting directory API to find nearby meetings
- Location data is not stored, logged, or retained by Calmly after the search is complete
- The App does not track your location in the background
- You can use the App fully without granting location permissions — the Meeting Finder will simply be unavailable
Location permission is requested only when you first attempt to use the Meeting Finder. You can revoke this permission at any time through your device's settings. Revoking location access will not affect any other functionality of the App.
6. Third-Party Services
Calmly is designed to minimize reliance on third-party services. The App does not include any advertising SDKs, analytics frameworks, social media integrations, or tracking tools.
The only external service interaction occurs through the Meeting Finder feature:
Meeting Directory API
When you use the Meeting Finder, the App sends your approximate location (latitude and longitude) to a third-party meeting directory service to retrieve a list of nearby meetings. This API call does not include any personal information, device identifiers, or user data beyond the location coordinates necessary to perform the search. Please refer to the meeting directory provider's own privacy policy for information about how they handle location queries.
The App is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. These platforms may collect their own data as described in their respective privacy policies. Calmly does not control or have access to any data collected by these distribution platforms.
7. Children's Privacy
Calmly is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because the App stores all data locally on the device and does not transmit personal information to our servers, we do not have the ability to identify or distinguish users by age. However, the App's content and purpose are designed for adults seeking recovery support.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used the App, please note that all data can be removed by uninstalling the App or using the in-app data deletion feature in Settings.
8. Your Rights
We believe in full transparency and user control. Because Calmly stores all data locally on your device, you inherently have complete control over your information. However, we want to be explicit about your rights under applicable privacy regulations, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
You have the right to:
- Access your data — All your data is visible directly within the App at any time. There is no hidden data stored elsewhere.
- Export your data — You can export all of your data as a portable file (JSON format) from the App's Settings at any time.
- Correct your data — You can edit or update any information you have entered in the App directly.
- Delete your data — You can delete individual entries or all data at once through the App's Settings. Uninstalling the App also removes all stored data.
- Restrict processing — Since all processing occurs locally on your device, you control it entirely. You can stop using any feature at any time.
- Data portability — The data export feature provides your data in a standard, machine-readable format that you can use as you see fit.
Note for California residents (CCPA): Calmly does not sell, share, or disclose personal information to third parties for commercial purposes. We do not use personal information for targeted advertising. Because we do not collect personal information on our servers, there is no data for us to sell or share.
Note for EU/EEA residents (GDPR): As Calmly does not collect or process personal data on remote servers, the typical data controller/processor framework has limited applicability. Your device acts as the sole data controller and processor. Should you have any concerns or wish to exercise your rights, please contact us at the address provided below.
9. Data Retention & Deletion
Your data is retained on your device for as long as you choose to keep it. Calmly does not impose any automatic data retention or deletion schedules.
You can delete your data at any time through the following methods:
- Individual deletion: Delete specific journal entries, check-ins, contacts, or other items directly within the App
- Full data reset: Use the "Clear All Data" option in the App's Settings to permanently erase all stored data
- App uninstallation: Removing the App from your device will delete all associated local data
Once data is deleted, it cannot be recovered. We recommend exporting your data before performing a full reset or uninstalling the App if you wish to retain a copy.
Because we do not store your data on our servers, we have no data to retain or delete on our end. Deletion is immediate and permanent once performed on your device.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App's functionality, legal requirements, or our practices. When we make changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
- Publish the updated policy on our website and within the App
- For material changes that affect how your data is handled, provide prominent notice within the App
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please do not hesitate to contact us:
We will make every effort to respond to your inquiry within 30 days.
This Privacy Policy is effective as of March 4, 2026. Calmly is committed to your privacy and the protection of your personal information. Thank you for trusting us as part of your recovery journey.
